Australia

Australian Centre for Mining Environmental Research - The Australian Centre for Mining Environmental Research Limited (ACMER) was established as an industry initiative to carry out environmental research and provide training in environmental management for the mining industry.

Australian Minerals and Energy Environment Foundation (AMEEF) - The Australian Minerals & Energy Environment Foundation (AMEEF) is an independent, non-political, non-profit body established in 1991 to promote the implementation of the principles of sustainable development in Australia?s mineral, energy and related industries. The mission of the Australian Minerals & Energy Environment Foundation is to encourage and support continual improvement and excellence in environmental management in Australia?s minerals, energy and related industries and to communicate the environmental achievements of these industries to the community.

INAP - INAP is an industry based initiative that aims to globally coordinate research and development into the management of sulfide mine wastes. The principal objectives of INAP are to promote significant improvements in the management of sulfidic mine materials and the reduction of liability associated with acid drainage through knowledge sharing and research and development of technology.

British Columbia

British Columbia and Yukon Chamber of Mines - The British Columbia & Yukon Chamber of Mines supports and promotes the mineral exploration community and related services. The Chamber's mandate is a unique combination of representative action, public outreach, education and media projects as it imparts the importance of mineral exploration in the creation of wealth and jobs

Environmental Mining Council of British Columbia - The purpose of the society is to help protect the long term ecological integrity of British Columbia and the Yukon from the impacts of mineral developments from exploration to abandonment. We work with communities, labour unions, government and industry toward the environmental reform of mining practices and regulation through research, education, dialogue and advocacy.

Acid Mine Drainage: Mining and Water Pollution Issues in British Columbia - Produced by BC Wild and the Environmental Mining Council of British Columbia (EMCBC), this new report introduces issues, profiles key sites, and identifies outstanding concerns.

Coal Association of Canada

Canada Natural Resources

Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum - The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum is the leading technical society of professionals in the Canadian minerals, metals, materials and energy industries. With over 12,000 national members, CIM strives to be the association of choice for professionals in the minerals industries.

Canadian Land Reclamation Association - The Canadian Land Reclamation Association/Association canadienne de r1habilitation des sites d1grad1s (CLRA/ACRSD) is a non-profit organization. The Association encourages personal and corporate involvement where reclamation or rehabilitation of disturbed lands is planned or implemented. The CLRA/ACRSD provides its members with up-to-date technical information through the publication of both its Newsletter and proceedings of its annual conference. These publications allow the organization to have an informal, instructional role in the decision-making processes of reclamation/rehabilitation projects and to act as a forum for the dissemination of ideas and information pertinent to reclamation activities.

Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists - The objectives of The Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG) are to promote the science of geology, especially as it relates to petroleum and natural gas exploration and exploitation, to foster the spirit of scientific research throughout its membership, and to promote a public awareness of the need for professional and well trained scientists.

Geological Association of Canada - The Objects of the Association Are: 1. To promote the science of geology and closely related fields of study, and to promote the knowledge of the members in connection therewith; 2. To hold conferences, meetings and exhibitions for the discussion of geological problems and the exchange of views in matters related to geology; 3. To publish various journals and collections of learned papers dealing with geology.

Laurentian University - Mining Environment Database Subury, Ontario, Canada - The database provides references and abstracts to over 20,000 journal articles, books, and government reports dealing with abandoned mines, acid mine drainage and land reclamation. Topics include reclamation planning, design and costs; tailings, heavy metals; disposal of hazardous wastes, including acid mine drainage, sulphide-based tailings and asbestos particles; chemical reactivity and oxidation affecting pyrite and pyrrhotite tailings; leaching; radioactive hazards of uranium tailings soil and water contamination; soil stabilization; liming; fertilizers; seeding techniques; mine closure techniques; and other related topics. Subject coverage focuses on hard rock mining topics and is international in scope.

MEND - Through the Mine Environment Neutral Drainage (MEND) program, Canadian mining companies and provincial and federal departments have reduced the liability due to acidic drainage. MEND was implemented to develop and apply new technologies to prevent and control acidic drainage.

Mineralogical Association of Canada - a non profit scientific organization to promote and advance the knowledge of mineralogy and the allied disciplines of crystallography, petrology, geochemistry and mineral deposits. Through its annual meetings, short courses, publications and sponsored symposia, the Association provides a forum for the presentation and dissemination of current knowledge and advances to world-wide community of earth scientists. Ever since its inception, MAC has given special attention to mineral deposits geology, particularly in organizing symposia, short courses and publishing special volumes and short-course notes on the subject.

Mining Association of Canada - MAC's mission is to promote, through the collective action of members, the growth and development of Canada's mining and mineral-processing industry, for the benefit of all Canadians. A Guide to the Management of Tailings Facilities
