The following text discusses the technologies used to reclaim a
mine site. This phase of reclamation takes place after site assessment
(link to site assessment), prediction testing (link to technologies
for prediction), and sampling and analysis (link to sampling and
analysis). At this point, the site is characterized, alternatives
for reclamation have been reviewed and the best remedial alternative
has been selected.
This section of the tech guide gives the reader an overview of
the many reclamation technologies that could take place at a mine
site, although, this does not mean that all the technologies are
used for each project. A site-specific analysis of alternatives
will determine the best remedial solution for the project at hand.
There is no "one way" to reclaim a mine site and often if one asks
what are the reclamation technologies commonly used for a give situation,
the answer would be, it depends. There are no "cookbook answers"
to mine reclamation. Each project will have different goals and
objectives, making a customized remedial solution necessary. This
section of the tech guide by no means outlines all the technologies
used in mine reclamation. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive
guide and resource to mine reclamation by discussing as many technologies
as possible in a timelined fashion. Your suggestions and input to
the tech guide are highly encouraged.
The following web and technical resources also give an overview
of technologies for mine reclamation project construction:
Also, check out the following technical document that will give
the reader an idea of the information that is included in a reclamation
document used for making project construction decisions:
The Case Histories section of the Ecorestoration Website gives
some great examples of project construction in action with photos.
Also, check out the Current
Research section of the Ecorestoration Website for more information
on the research being conducted at the Reclamation Research Unit
at Montana State University. This link has some great photos of
mineland reclamation in action. In addition, see the Photo Gallery
section of the Ecorestoration Website for more great photos.
