Willow Creek Dike - August 1999, Red Mountain South Pasture

The dike, a low earth berm, was constructed in 1998 to prevent high flows of Willow Creek from being captured by an established county road not visible in this photo. Dramatic rise in the water table in recent years was caused by riparian improvement and beaver activity. Three miles of road along Willow Creek were closed permanently. Note dead and dying sagebrush surrounding green areas.

Despite grazing system, unauthorized use has prevented acceptable levels of riparian improvement.
