Willow Creek Dike - August 1999, Red Mountain South Pasture
The dike, a low earth berm, was constructed in 1998 to prevent high flows of Willow Creek from being captured by an established county road not visible in this photo. Dramatic rise in the water table in recent years was caused by riparian improvement and beaver activity. Three miles of road along Willow Creek were closed permanently. Note dead and dying sagebrush surrounding green areas.

Willow Creek looking to NW - October 2001
Notice signs of increased beaver activity, flooding and lateral spread of sedges/rushes and willows.
Cottonwood Creek, V Pasture, looking downstream - October 1988
Up until 1989, this pasture was grazed 6/1 to 9/30 every year.
Cottonwood Creek, looking downstream - August 2000
Despite grazing system, unauthorized use has prevented acceptable levels of riparian improvement.

Enforcement and fence repairs have allowed 2 years of actual rest.
